Sir Thomas Jervoise (1587–1654) was the son of Thomas Jervoise of Britford, Wiltshire, but he was orphaned at an early age and in 1601 Sir Richard Paulet purchased Jervoise's wardship from the Crown. Paulet had no son and after Jervoise married Paulet's daughter, Lucy, he became Paulet's heir. At Paulet's death in 1614 Jervoise succeeded to Paulet's estates at Herriard and Freefolk, Hampshire, and continued to reside in the county, though he had also inherited estates in Wiltshire and Shropshire from his father. He was knighted in 1607 and from 1621 to his death he served Whitchurch in parliament, supporting the Parliamentary side in the Civil War. William Guidott acted as steward of Jervoise's estates.
