And in money paid to minstrels of the lord king this year, nothing, because they did not come...
...
In this year and the previous (see Chamberlains' Accounts, 1538–9) one of the chamberlains included an entry for a payment to the king's minstrels even though they were paid nothing and this year's account suggests that is because they did not come to Winchester in this year, although they were expected to come as they had done previously. The accounts for 1541–2 contain no mention of minstrels at all.

The chamberlains' account rolls record all of the city's income and expenditures.
Income comes primarily from annual rents and rates, as well as special
levies. Expenditures include the whole range of civic responsibilities,
including construction and maintenance of civic structures, annual
payments to civic officials, and rewards given to local nobility and
gentry (and to their performers). The accounting year runs from
Michaelmas to Michaelmas.
